AUSTRALIAN CERAMIC ART
We are Dawn Smith and Cynthia Tippler and began Studio Australia in 1990 in Wagga Wagga in the Riverina, New South Wales. We are great friends, mother and daughter, and passionate about our craft. Our family has been in the ceramic industry for over 50 years.
We have fabulous support from John, (Cynthia's husband) who is head ceramic caster. The skills of this trade having been passed on from Ron, his father-in-law. (Ron passed away in 2014 leaving John to keep up the standards.) Kerry also works in our studio. She has been casting our pieces for so long, we really couldn't do without her.
Initially our studio produced hand-painted ceramic tableware, accessories and country style figurines. In 1995 we acquired Scat Ceramics Italia (established in 1982 by Tuscan born, Amerigo Poli). We have continued and expanded the tradition of hand-painted ceramic earthenware birds, animal figurines, lamp bases and decorator items.
Here at Studio Australia we love designing and then creating unusual gifts and collectables, and unique home decorating ideas to inspire and delight you.
Some of the ranges are as retro as “Flying Ducks” like Nanna had on the wall and others are quite flamboyantly funky and modern. One very unique piece is the Cockatoo Table Lamp. This is exclusively made by Studio Australia.
All ceramic pieces are hand slip cast earthenware clay, hand-painted and glazed. All pieces are fired in an electric kiln twice. Importantly every piece is signed and stamped with Studio Australia's familiar branding.
Our bespoke lamp-shades are made to complement the table lamps. We source our fabrics from all over the world, chosen for the unique colours and patterns. Each shade is made to order.
